We will be meeting at 10:30 am on Friday 11th Sept.

Last month we heard about how the site of Göbekli Tepe was first discovered and the random events that dictate how much of these ancient sites is preserved and excavated. We looked more closely at the carvings on the stone pillars, and other artefacts, and considered theories about their interpretation and religious significance, both credible and incredible. We also viewed images of the ‘Urfa Man’ statue, discovered in the area. We finished by debating the significance of language and artistic expression in the mental evolution of humanity.

For the September meeting, we will still be in prehistoric Turkey, but moving on by 2,000 years to Çatalhöyük, described as one of the earliest urban centres in human history.
