Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026

Record of AGM 2026

The 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place at 2.00pm on Tuesday 19th May at The Bridge Church Community Hall in Headless Cross. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. The formal AGM matters of reports and the election of the committee members were conducted in the usual efficient way

After a record-breaking AGM (76 members present and all completed in under 19 minutes) and a welcome cup of tea (thank you so much to Murray and John), we settled down to be entertained. I have never been able to attend a Music in Our Time session as it clashes with French Conversation on the second Monday afternoon in the month, but I know it is one of our long standing and most popular groups. This afternoon I discovered why! The Interest Group Leader, Steve Prosser, gave a presentation entitled 'Don't Mention the Weather'.

Steve explained that there is always a theme to the presentations and that the link between the afternoon’s songs and videos would be the weather. As the AGM had been preceded by a heavy downpour, it seemed an appropriate choice. Quizzes are always popular with our members and each song was only played after we had guessed either song or performer from the onscreen clues or the short opening extract. Steve had chosen “A Winter’s Tale’ by David Essex, ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ performed by Pete, Paul and Mary, ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves, “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head’, ‘Rainy days and Mondays’ by The Carpenters and, finally, ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles. Steve gave fascinating information about the background to each song, maintaining just the right balance between this and the lovely chance to sit back and enjoy the sounds and images which both took us back to our youth and promised happy times ahead with the sun rising over Stonehenge. A wonderful way to end the AGM. Thank you so much to Steve Prosser for taking us on a nostalgia trip and entertaining us so well.

Record of AGM 2025

The 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place at 2.00pm on Tuesday 20th May at The Bridge Church Community Hall in Headless Cross.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. Here are the minutes of our AGM on Tuesday, 20th May, 2025 (click on the blue button directly below this paragraph). They are subject to approval at the AGM next May, of course. I hope that those of you who were unable to join us will find the minutes of interest. They include the report given by our new Chair, Sue Gee, and the names of the committee who have been elected or re-elected including Neil Gordon as our new Treasurer, and Stephen Lawrence as a committee member.

After our short AGM meeting, the fun started! June Ferrier wished to celebrate her 85th birthday with us and had brought us cakes. After a rendition of 'happy birthday', cream teas and cakes were on offer, while committee members served teas and coffees. (We will refine this process next time!). Then, Tony Brannon, with a little help from his friends Gwen and Bob, commenced an afternoon of musical quizzes and bingo, featuring music from the 70s (and our youth!). There followed much laughter, singing along and arm waving - and a couple of us were even tempted to have a dance but fortunately for everyone else, we refrained. We will certainly be booking Tony again!

Thank you for your support.
